Really Roy

About Really Roy

In 1978 there were only a few ways to share your music, cassettes, vinyl records, live performances or the on radio. That summer my first band, Open End, organized during a series of parties / jam sessions and for the next ten years all I did for a “living” was play music.
It was a great run, mainly with two bands. We wrote songs, made records and played hundreds of shows. Still at the time, records and cassettes were the only way to share our music.
Now zoom forward to the 2020’s and streaming audio!
Listening to a “new music” channel on Spotify, it dawned on me that a lot of the “new” music was not much different from what we were doing in the ’80’s and, as long as no one ever heard our music before it would still be NEW to them. That epiphany was the germ of this website. To create a place to share our music (and pictures) for our old friends and fans, and for new friends and family to hear it for the first time!
If you danced at one of our club shows, or we played at your high school or college, this site might provide a fond memory!
Then, thinking about my newer friends and co-workers who don’t know anything about my musical past life, a voice in my head heard someone say, “Really Roy, that’s you?” and that made me laugh, so that’s what I named my Spotify handle and this web site “Really Roy.” I hope you enjoy it!
